- The Secret Service knew of threats made to Nancy Pelosi days before the Capitol attack.
- But Capitol Police weren't alerted of the threats until 5:55 p.m. on January 6, 2021.
- Documents obtained by CREW reveal that the Secret Service was aware of threats against Biden and Pence.
The Secret Service withheld for days before the Capitol riot threats made on social media toward House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Vice President Mike Pence, and President Joe Biden, according to Secret Service emails obtained by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).
CREW's Jordan Libowitz and Lauren White reported on Wednesday that the Secret Service discovered a Parler account on January 4, 2021 — two days before a violent mob overran the Capitol and interrupted lawmakers who were certifying Joe Biden's win — which features a series of violent threats towards lawmakers. The reporters didn't identify the account.
A post on the Parler account had a list of "enemies," including Pelosi, that had been shared on December 31, 2020. "January 6 starts #1776 all over again…Fight for EVERYTHING," the post said.
But the Secret Service waited until 5:55 p.m. local time on January 6, 2021, to alert the US Capitol Police, whose officers were by then already defending the Capitol against attackers, according to CREW.
"Good afternoon, The US Secret Service is passing notification to the US Capitol Police regarding discovery of a social media threat directed toward Speaker Nancy Pelosi," the Secret Service said in a message to the Capitol Police, per CREW.
CREW also found accounts under the same name, which the organization didn't disclose, on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, MeWe, and Bichute. Posts included warnings and "tips" for the "brave and courageous patriots going to DC to force Congress to refuse Biden's rigged election." Rioters were also advised to hide their MAGA gear while checking in at hotels and to "be wary" of DC police officers, while Washington, DC, was decried as a "hotbed for ANTIFA/BLM."
On a mission to "save America," the account advised rioters to "stay anonymous. Stay alive. Guns up Patriots!!"
A posted dated January 2, 2021 also said: "Biden will die shortly after being elected...Patriots are going to tear his head off. Prison is his best case scenario."
CREW also found violent posts being directed at Pence, with one saying: "It's gonna get violent as we charge the federal buildings and drag out corrupt politicians dead or alive!"

CREW announced earlier Wednesday that it planned on posting a series of pieces regarding the Secret Service emails and documents they acquired, demonstrating that the government had received "clear warnings" of the violence that lay ahead.
The organization's first post also detailed how the Secret Service downplayed the information received about right-wing extremist groups' plans for January 6, 2021, saying there was "no indication for civil disobedience."
"While we do not comment on issues pertaining to protective intelligence, the United States Secret Service has an outstanding working relationship with all law enforcement agencies in the National Capitol Region," the Secret Service said in an emailed statement to Insider. "The Secret Service works tirelessly to share pertinent information with our law enforcement partners. In the communication where there was a reference to Speaker Pelosi, that information was provided to the US Capitol Police for their situational awareness."
